VENUE
The
conference will be held in a suitable venue at Dhaka, the capital city
of Bangladesh. The specific venue will be confirmed soon.
REGISTRATION
Registration
is not a prerequisite to attend the conference. The participants willing
to join in lunches and have their names published in the post-conference
documents would require their names to be registered. The registration
fee per person will be BDT.200 (Taka Two hundred) only.
Prospective
participants may also choose to send their name and addresses (including
e-mail) to the ‘Contact Address’ to get updated about the progress
of the Conference organization and also participate in it suitably.
ORGANIZERS AND
COMMITTEES
BAPA,
BEN and BEA are proposed to be the main organizers of this conference so
far. However, some other organizations agreeing with the objectives of
the conference may also join as organizers of this conference.

PURPOSE
AND OBJECTIVE
The
purpose of this conference is to bring together experts and activists from
the countries of the South Asian region as well as from the rest of the
world in order to examine the impact of the Indian government’s
river-linking scheme from the point of view of regional cooperation
necessary to harness the water resources of the Ganges-Brahmaputra-Meghna
basin.
The
conference is expected to achieve the following concrete objectives:
§
Scientifically
analyze all aspects of the river-linking project and explore alternative
ways for regional cooperation in water use.
§
Help persuade
the Indian government to reconsider the river-linking project in the light
of the views of a large body of experts and activists from both India and
Bangladesh, as well as from other parts of the world, gathered in the
conference.
§
Establish unity
among experts and activists of the region through free exchange of ideas
and opinions and dissemination of information relevant to the
river-linking project.
§
Sensitize the
general public of the region and the international community about the
river-linking project and its potential impacts.
FORMAT
The
conference will have a dual format. On the one hand, it will have Expert
Sessions, for presentation of papers and discussion by regional and
international experts. On the other hand, the conference will have General
Sessions for presentation and discussion by activists and other members of
the public. Various exhibitions and cultural programs will also be
organized during the conference.
